Take Action

FTS’ Volunteer Program

Join Free the Slaves in the struggle to end slavery!

You may be wondering what you can do about slavery – it seems so complicated, cruel and far away. Well, Free the Slaves’ Volunteer Program helps you connect with us to become part of the solution!

How? By becoming a FTS volunteer!

WarSlavery.org

Free the Slaves has launched WarSlavery.org, a campaign site to put an end the US government’s complicity in human trafficking in Iraq (as mentioned in an earlier post).

Add your voice to call for the trafficking to end and for the victims to receive justice. Visit the site to sign up for the campaign and to find out more about the problem of our US taxpayer dollars supporting trafficking in Iraq!

Documentary Screening

Showing a film or documentary about slavery during the Anti-Slavery week is a good way to attract people and get them thinking about the issue. It is also a great event to build interest in your group and slavery.

Sample Article for Newspaper

Here is a sample article you might submit to your college newspaper.

Phone-In

Any social/environmental movement will only be successful by engaging in appropriate and effective action. By action we mean taking the knowledge that you have about an issue, and applying that knowledge to change things.

Meals with a Mission

Meals with a mission offers people the opportunity to come together for a meal while having a presentation/discussion about the issue of slavery. It is a way for students, teachers, and the community to learn about the issue, while getting fed. The meal can be anything from offering snacks to soup or a larger dinner.

27-Hour Fast

Purpose: to spend 27 hours in solidarity with the 27 million slaves around the world. The fast can also be used as a fundraiser if your group wishes. This can be easily accomplished by asking friends, family, community organizations, or businesses to sponsor individuals. If you are going to fundraise set a goal!

February 27th: Anti-Slavery Day

There are 27 million slaves that exist today and students across the United States are uniting in an effort to eradicate this grave problem that plagues our world today. The voice of students together raised to fight this global injustice is making the world aware that to young adults, modern slavery and trafficking is a pressing issue that needs immediate attention.

Spoken Word

The true goal of the spoken word movement was simple: to bring poetry back to the people and often times promote political activism. Spoken word is about getting people excited around a cause, modern slavery and trafficking, about what you say and how you say it.
